Making changes to your diet can help control the symptoms of dumping syndrome.
1. Eat smaller meals and eat more often
• Eat 5 to 6 small meals a day instead of 3 large meals. Spread them out throughout the day, with about 3-4 hours between each meal.
2. Choose foods low in sugar
• Avoid foods high in simple sugars (such as sweets, chocolate, pastries, sugary drinks, white bread, and potatoes).
3. Increase your protein intake
• Protein-rich foods (such as eggs, meat, fish, chicken, legumes/lentils, yogurt, milk, and cheese) are digested more slowly than carbohydrates and can help stabilize blood sugar levels.
4. Stop drinking at least 15-30 minutes before eating and wait 30 minutes after eating.
5. Chew your food well.
6. Avoid alcohol and caffeine.
